5 more minutes

There is this little song by Meaghan Smith called 5 More Minutes that I absolutely love. It's all about summer memories and begging mom and dad for 5 more minutes to play.

That reflects how I feel tonight on this long weekend that ushers in September with fall breezes. Please summer... 5 more minutes. I'm not ready for bed yet. I haven't got my golf game ready to attempt to play. We haven't played tennis nor gone for a bike ride. The river hasn't been floated and we only camped once. Zinny hasn't whisked us on a topless cruise into the mountains nor have I finished the box of iced coffees we bought for the keurig. Our local park hasn't been explored and we haven't had a picnic. I'm just not ready yet. Please... Just 5 more minutes??!!

Garden Baths

Can I just share that I am in love with warm weather living - especially garden baths. I wish so much Alberta had a longer summer (and no real winter) to justify creating an outdoor garden bath. Harumpf.

Oh well, until then I will continue to shower with the window open, looking upon the beautiful flowers in our backyard and dream of a time when I will next get to experience a beautiful garden bath.

Anyone else dreaming of a relaxing hot shower with the sun shining, birds singing and the flowery scent in the air?

Is it bad that I spend my days looking forward to the next weekend? It's not that I don't enjoy my job. In fact on most days the 8 hour day feels like about 3. However, in a country that is iced over for 90% of the year, I cannot wait for summer. And now that it is here I wish I could be lounging by a pool, swinging the clubs, going for a walk, floating down the river, eating an ice cream sunday, cruising through the mountains with the top down, having a picnic, roasting a hot dog, camping, hiking, biking, roller blading . . . oh all the summer fun!

Alas I will do my best to fit them all in. If only the office had a pool side cabana I could work in!

i was on site at Gibsons on Wednesday

the whole day was overcast with showers

at the end of the day, Jimmy was so kindly going to pick me up

we arranged for a time

i waited in the building lobby for him

right around the time we were supposed to meet, i saw a grey caravan pull up across the street and park

rather than waiting for Jimmy to text me, i headed out into the rain to meet him

i was pretty excited that the day was over

and we were going to have a little date

i headed out the door saying good night to various Gibson employees who were starting their trek home as well

i quickly dashed across the street in the rain

as i approached the van i noticed that their was new 'pin striping' along the side

it wasn't jimmy after all but rather a shuttle vehicle for a dealership

i was too embarassed to go back in and explain to those I knew why i was all wet

so i waited outside

in the rain

for a few minutes

under a tree

traffic was so congested that jimmy was a tad delayed

the tree didn't shelter me much

that darn pride - gets me every time

Late April Weather

Various nights as of late, the timing is perfect for Brenda and I to walk home together. At the point where we part paths we are both less then 2 blocks away from our respective apartments.

Tongiht was one of those nights. However, looking outside 15 minutes before the home bell rang, I wasn't too sure about this plan. Perhaps Jimmy would feel like being our night in shining armor...

(if you look closely enough you can see the effects of light snow flurries)

By the time Brenda's train arrived outside my office, the snow, rain and wind were gone. We Let Jimmy know we were okay and started the 15 minute walk home.

Within 2 minutes the wind picked up and brought with it sleet that felt like shreds of glass. We ducked behind a sign so that Brenda could wrap her scarf like a baboushka around her hair. I wasn't willing to give up the little warmth it was adding to my neck and decided to risk losing my cute hairdo instead.

In the end neither of us were better off than the other. Both of us had mascara streaming down our faces, our hair was soaked and our pants were dripping!

(This was the view from my apartment by the time I made it home)

Finally arriving at my apartment, soaked through to the skin, the sleet running down my face, I could not wait to get up to my place and hunker down underneath a blanket. But alas, my luck had not turned yet. The elevators were both broken - one stuck on floor 4 and the other on 17. After waiting a couple of minutes and continually pushing the buttons neither one had moved. Argh - floor 17 - that was where I could not wait to be!!! Stairs it is.

So 17 flights later, I am upstairs with nothing to eat (was going to hit the grocery store once I made it home), my lights are flashing on and off and I need to head out to cheer the Schooners to their first play off victory.

Oh dear - I hope the elevator is in operation again by the time I get home . . .
